When Gracie first joined me, I was teaching English in a community college. Gracie came to campus and sat in front of the class calmly taking in the proceedings for three years. Now I am retired and Gracie travels with me, enjoying bike rides and kayaking. The biggest assist she provides for me is alerting me about the direction of sounds. Though not totally deaf, my left side is considerably weaker than my also impaired right side. This makes locating where sounds are originating nearly impossible for me. In addition to making life outside the house less stressful for me, she makes me safer than I would otherwise be. Last winter, her quick action on the sidewalk saved us both from being run over by a car exiting an underground parking lot too quickly. Gracie is invaluable!!
